Why Authors Fail: 17 Mistakes Self Publishing Authors Make That Sabotage Their Success

Finally, a self publishing book about author mindset. As a book marketing coach, I often hear complaints from authors that show me they do not have a growth mindset. When I show them the path they have to go through to build their brand, they come up with all sorts of excuses. This book highlights key behaviours that struggling authors practice. I know I have certainly been guilty of some of them from time to time. The core message in this book is that you need to treat your writing as a business and not a hobby. Not only does the author highlight some of these common errors, but he also points the reader towards some resources that can help.

My thoughts on Why Authors Fail
by Kim Vermaak

For over twenty years, I helped brand managers and event coordinators build customer relationships through the use of branded promotional gifts and clothing. The industry was cutthroat and had the win-lose mentality that is prevalent in traditional business. Only one company can win the contract. Only one person can get the job.

As many authors start out in a part-time capacity as an author, they enter ‌their author career with this mentality and it is a mindset that hurts new authors more than anything. They don’t see that collaborating with other authors can help them build a newsletter database and even get reviews.

Ignoring this valuable asset that struggling authors have easy access to is one of the points that is covered in this self publishing book. When I read this book, I not only recognised some ‌things I struggled with that I started out with, but it also reminded me of a few things I need to refocus on.

With seventeen areas that make authors fail, there is something for every new and even established author to glean some wisdom from. There is little self promotion in the book used as an example of some techniques, but I am totally okay with that because the content of the book certainly makes it worthwhile.

The author has packed the book with little nuggets of self publishing gold that will make a difference to your book marketing.

Then Try out Story Origin… It is almost like having an author assistant at less than a moth’s worth of weekly cappuccinos. I use it every day to help me build my subscribers, sell books and get reviewers. Click in the story Origin Button to try it out.
