Author Website Design Tips for Authors, Bloggers & Writers

As an author, your website is going to be the place that represents you as a brand and shows your books and where to buy them. If you have the resources to pay someone to create an author website, choose a firm that understands the needs of authors. But if you need a DIY option, then we have some tips that will help you get started on your author website.

Choose a Theme That Works For You.

There are several themes available for WordPress. Each theme has its own advantages and disadvantages. If you’re new to blogging, I recommend starting out with one of the free themes. They offer a lot of features without any additional cost. However, as you become more experienced, you’ll likely want to upgrade to a premium theme. Premium themes usually come with more features than the free ones.

Create an About Page.

An About page is a good place to introduce yourself as an author and what you do. It’s also a good place to link to other pages on your site. You should add links to your social media profiles and maybe even a contact form so readers can reach you.

Include Contact Information.

Make sure to include your email address and phone number on your About page so people can reach out to you. You may only be starting out as an author right now, but as your reputation grows, you could be asked to judge writing competitions, do workshops to be a speaker.

Add Social Media Links.

Include social media links on your About page so readers can easily share your work with their friends. Many authors are on LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. So be sure to add them on, so that whatever social media platforms your readers use, they have a way of seeing your content.

Create a Books Page

Readers need to know where to buy your books. On this page of your author website, you can list any books that you have on Amazon, Barnes & Noble Press, or Smashwords.

If you have your books with any local bricks and Morata book stores, this will be a good place to add their logos.

Build a Listing.

If you’re an author, blogger, or writer, you need a professional-looking website. You can build one yourself using WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, or another CMS (content management system). Or, you can use a service like Write Learn and Earn to create your author website for you.

Remember to update your author website regularly.

As your career evolves, you may change your address or add more books or become a speaker. Don’t ignore your page once you have set it up. Update the book listings and look and feel to keep up to date with current trends.

Hello, I am Kim Vermaak

I spent most of my adult life helping other companies build their dream and their brands.

After I turned 40, I wondered if there was more to life than taking
care of children and slaving away to earn a living.

I wanted to create a legacy for my children and the next generation. I found that through my books I could celebrate who I am as well as teach others to earn a living through their writing.

Being an author is not a hobby. It is a business, and it is my passion to teach authors how to thrive in that business. I look forward to seeing your book business grow.

Your Book Whisperer
